New Thursday Lunchtime Pilates Class

Penny farthing megaphone

We have an announcement.  To meet increasing demand, starting on the 12th February, Embody Pilates is introducing a new Thursday lunchtime Pilates class to its weekly schedule.  The hour-long session begins at 12.30 and, as always, is suitable for all ages, abilities and fitness levels.

Like the other four Pilates classes we run, it takes place at The Wellbeing Studio in the heart of Clevedon.  Click the following links to learn how to find the studio and to see what it looks like inside.

The cost of a block of six group Pilates sessions is £50. The classes can then be taken as and when you’re available. For those who’d prefer to pay for each class individually, the cost is £10.

So, from Thursday 12th February, Embody Pilates’ weekly schedule of classes will look like this:

Monday lunchtimes, 12.30 to 13.30
Tuesday evenings, 18.30 to 19.30
Thursday lunchtimes, 12.30 to 13.30
Thursday evenings, 18.00 to 19.00
Saturday mornings, 10.00 to 11.00

Thank you for choosing Embody Pilates.  We very much value all our clients.

To close, something to amuse.  Here’s a sign Melissa came across recently that suggests the slave trade has hit the high street in Bristol…

Recommended Pilates Socks

A number of clients have asked me where they can buy Pilates socks.  With their special rubberised grip soles, Pilates socks are useful when exercising on cold, slippy wooden studio floors.  Here are a few recommendations…

Cheap and cheerful

Fitness Basics Pilates Socks

At £2.89 including postage, Fitness Basics offer a good budget pair of Pilates/Yoga socks.  They are available in a range of colours and in both the five-toe (as shown above) and regular sock design.

Good brand, mid-range price

APPI Pilates Socks

The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) socks are specially designed for Pilates and have the benefit of a seamless toe and a unique reflexology point non-slip sole.  A well-designed sock requiring a bit more of an investment than the budget pair – £7.99 plus £2.95 for postage and packaging.

High Street Brand with a price to match

Sweaty Betty Pilates Socks

Specially designed for Pilates with a nifty over-foot elastic to keep it in place throughout the class, Sweaty Betty‘s Pilates socks cost £12.  Available in a range of colours, they are currently on offer – two pairs for £20.  Home delivery is of course extra (£4) or free if you visit their Bristol shop at 59 Queen’s Road, BS8 1QL.

High Heels – How They Affect The Body

Dsquared stilettos with spine heel

Studies by The Spine Health Institute have shown that towering shoes can be costly in more ways than one, taking their toll on your spine, hips, knees, ankles and feet, while altering your posture and gait.  Here is an infograph (click on it to enlarge) summarising the effect high heels can have on the body…

Impact on the body of high heels

Advice for those who can’t give up their heel habit:

  • avoid wearing high heels for long periods of time;
  • stretch leg muscles before and after putting them on;
  • try and set your limit to two inch heels;
  • buy shoes in the afternoon when feet are at their largest;
  • avoid a shoe with a pointed toe;
  • opt for shoes with a leather insole to keep the foot from slipping;
  • have a variety of shoes in your wardrobe and vary the type you wear day-to-day;
  • see a Pilates teacher on a regular basis 😉

New Studio from Monday 12th January

The Wellbeing Studio logo

From next week, Monday 12th January, Embody Pilates will be operating from The Wellbeing Studio in Clevedon. After almost a year in the Kenn Road studio, we’re moving to a more central location in town to join the excellent team of complementary therapists who work there. The address is:

The Wellbeing Studio
6 Alexandra Road
Clevedon
BS21 7QE

Map showing the location of The Wellbeing Studio

The studio is located next door to Six Ways Sports shop.  There is free parking right outside and along the length of Alexandra Road, as well as on the streets in the immediate vicinity.

Whilst not quite as spacious as the Kenn Road studio, our new home is large enough to cater for the numbers who typically come to class.

Inside the PIlates teaching room at The Wellbeing Studio

If demand increases and we find ourselves a little tight for space, we’ll put on more group Pilates classes and if necessary put in place a booking system. Until then, as before, just come along to class as and when you are free. The weekly timetable of group classes remains the same:

Monday lunchtimes, 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm
Tuesday evenings, 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm
Thursday evenings, 6 pm to 7 pm
Saturday mornings, 10 am to 11 am

The Tuesday evening and Saturday morning classes are the smaller ones, so if you like more space and more attention from the teacher, these are the classes you might find more to your taste.

There will be a slight increase in the cost of a block of six group Pilates sessions. From Monday 12th January, instead of £48 it will be £50. As before, the classes can then be taken as and when you’re available. For those who’d prefer to pay for each class individually, the cost is still £10.

The cost per hour-long private Pilates session will rise too. Instead of £38, from Monday 12th January the price will be £40, or £390 if you pay up front for a block of ten.

If you have any questions about our move to The Wellbeing Studio, please get in touch with Melissa via the contact form.
